14th-Oct-2007 04:25 pm - A real update... really...
satchel lazy
Okay, sort of.

I know I said 'tomorrow' like three days ago, but whatever...

At the very least, here's the news on the newest 'Pigmefah!' strip:
Jaqq has, for many many years, had long, beautiful, chocolate brown hair. Down to her waist, silky smooth, baby fine. Beautiful. That's how it was when I saw her at the end of summer 2006. When I next saw her in person - Christmas 2006, shortly before I moved back to Texas - she had chopped it off to just above her shoulders.

Now, Jaqq doesn't always dress like the very pretty girl she is. She's gotten better about that, but at this point in history, she was going through a particularly bad patch of wearing really baggy shirts and pants, which, despite the very womanly figure that all three of us sisters share, frankly made her look like a gangly teenage boy.

Her haircut did nothing to help that - the haircut which came to be called (affectionately!) the 'Snape Hair.' Yeah, like Severus Snape from Harry Potter - lank, dark, shoulder-length... gross. And because it was cut right to her shoulders, it had a way of not staying back and falling in her face like some kind of long-haired emo/goth kid. Ick.

Luckily, over the next few months, it started to grow out again. It was probably to her shoulder blades by the beginning of summer 2007...at which point she decided to cut it all off.

No, she didn't shave her head, or even get an army buzz cut. She has a rather short pixie cut that took some getting used to (remember, she wore it really long for years!), but is utterly adorable. Even her boyfriend, who shall be known as Phoebus (yeah, laugh at me, Jaqq. He's your boyfriend!) and was the staunchest opposer of her cutting her hair, has admitted that he really likes this look on her.

And, now that she seems to have almost completely given up baggy boy!clothes, she is no longer a Snape look-alike, but rather a living, breathing Alice Cullen. w00t!

...Except that she's too dark. Curse your melanin, Jaqq! Why did you have to get all the Native American genes in our family?! *fume*

Aaaand... done! :D

Guh, I need sleep... Luckily, I don't have to be at work too early tomorrow (I got a new job! W00t! But more on that later...), so I do actually have time to spit something out here before I keel over from exhaustion.

Main thing: New Pigmefah! See it here (for any losers who haven't seen it on my dA page yet... I know, I know, I should be more up on posting things to my own site :P)

Also: Holy carp, Dragon Tamers! If you don't know what I'm talking about, you're really not much of a stalker...or you're fortunate enough to not be my sister Jaqq, who can't get me to stop yapping at her about my story ideas. But yes - DT is my baby, my OTP, my exact brand of heroine. Briefly: It's the original story I've been developing for years, now finally to the point that I can actually start writing (and, even more importantly, to the point that I've decided to do it as a series of books instead of a bunch of graphic novels, which I was waffling back and forth about for a loooonng time). It's about... uh... dragons. Yes. I bet you never would have guessed that. But anyway, after long stints of staring at my story notes and feeling like I was trying to ask a brick wall how to do long division, I finally found my inspiration, my drive, my desire.

Where? From the Twilight books by Stephenie Meyer.

I can honestly say that Ms. Meyer has quickly become my favorite author of all time (and not just because her books helped me finally admit how much of a romantic I am...and realize that that's okay), but as much as I love her books, I really, really loved what I read at her website. Seriously, if there are any other struggling writers out there who are trying to find the heart they know they want to put into their writing - go to her website, StephenieMeyer.com, and read up on what she's got to say about the process she went through when writing Twilight (and its sequels). She doesn't talk about the do's and don't's of story structure, of finding an agent, of getting published... she talks about writing just because you want to write...something I'd nearly forgotten how to do. She didn't start writing because she wanted to be famous or see her name on bookstore shelves...she started because she had an idea and she really, really loved the story and characters that came from it. After reading that, I realized all the things I was doing wrong...there are too many to list here right now, but a few worth mentioning are that I wasn't having fun with it - I was stressing too much about what other, nameless, faceless peolple would think - and I had absolutely no idea who my characters were.

...Ugh, this was going to be quick! Oh well, I needed to get that out (I guess I needed to pay some homage to Stephenie, since I have as yet not found a good Twilight group here on LJ to join ._.;; ) Anyway, more on the new Pigmefah! tomorrow, after I've slept, as well as news on the new job, my (non-paying) bi-weekly comic gig, and of course Dragon Tamers XD

Ps: The little dragon on my icon is my own artwork, and is one of my main characters. His name is Romga (pronounced "rawm-yuh," with a soft "ng" sound, like in "ing," not a hard 'g') and he is a dragon. Also, he is quite cute, if I do say so myself. ^_^

Pps: Anyone who got the heroine comment before I launched into my tirade about Twilight gets a yummy, extra-special mint-chocolate-chip cookie. And a fresh strawberry from Book's garden.

Ppps: You can tell how tired I am by the fact that I can't help but throw in another cryptic pop-culture reference on top of the one I was already offering cookies for. Whoo, go me! And, uh, the Admiral totally pwns Hahn any day of the week. And that poofy-haired terrorist kid.

Pppps: 'Kay, I'll stop now. G'night.
24th-Jul-2007 02:12 pm - Really quick...

Photoshop is loading up as I type this, and the minutes are ticking away before I have to go to work, so I'll keep this short...

New Pigmefah! up! It's on deviantArt and Random inK. I would tell you to go read it, but there aren't any words in this one, so that makes reading it kinda hard, haha. ^_^;

I just need to do final cleanups on the next page of "Elemental" and then that'll be ready to post too. Let me apologize in advance if the coloring seems rushed. I've gotten so behind on this that I got to a point where I just wanted to post this sucker. :P Next page after this one is already half-colored, so it should be along before too awful long as well.

In others news: AWGUHHAAARRRRYYYYYYYY X____X

No, I haven't finished Deathly Hallows yet. I'm not even half-way through. Jaqq swooped in last night (and this morning) and took my spot as farthest read. This is a great deal because of work and also because I made the mistake of thinking I was in enough pain last night to need to take my muscle relaxant medicine. While I did get a great night's sleep (for once) because of my medicine, I also didn't get up until about 11am today (I'm usually up by 7, or 8 absolute latest) and I've been extremely woozy and hung-over from the muscel relaxants all day - which meant that I lost the hours I would have spent in the morning reading HPDH to sleep of all things. And so Jaqq takes the lead...

And in RL, I've gotten some psuedo-offers on my comics, sorta. I've been asked to do some story-boarding for an indepent film-maker I know very casually, and I may be doing a weekly comic for the newsletter my church hands out every week. So, probably all non-profit, but I'm still really excited about the opportunities to get more exposure. =)

And that's it for now... If you'll excuse me, the nearly-done page of "Elemental" is awaiting me in PS.

-Jez ;)

(Gah, that wasn't so quick, was it? .__.; )

(Edit 6/4/07 - newest Pigmefah! strip is now on the site too. Enjoy!)

...but I kept getting pulled away from the computer and so didn't get to finish it =( Anyway...

New Pigemfah! See it here.

Holy carp, yesterday was a productive day. I got a page of Elemental all colored and finished and posted, and now I've also posted the next Pigmefah! comic, which has been sitting on my computer for some time now.

This comic went through several different incarnations before I finally settled on one and just finished it. I did several different sketches with varying degrees of detail, chibification, and finished-ness. None of these, however, satisfied me - I didn't like any of them enough to continue on to inking and coloring. So I kept just making more sketches. Then, I finally got fed up and just sat down at the computer and sketched something in Photoshop with my tablet, thinking for some unknown reason that that would then make the process easier and faster.

If you've started following "Elemental" at all, you may have a hint as to how much Photshop hates me. This was true in this case as well - I would get frustrated with PS and so not be able to work on the comic for more than a little while at a time. This, incidentally, is why there is absolutely no shading in the entire piece - I put the speech bubbles and text in, and was like 'yay, now I only have to shade it and it's done!' And the thought of going over all those colors again made my brain start to hurt. And, unfortunately for you all, I didn't have the willpower to put it away and come back to it later. If I've learned one thing about myself in the last few years of writing and drawing, it's that leaving something almost-but-not-quite done is the best way to ensure that I will never finish it. So this time I just said screw it and went ahead and posted it.

:D
16th-Apr-2007 11:21 am - I should write something here...

The new Pigmefah! comic is finally up on Random Ink! Yay! :D

Sorry for the delay... I know this excuse is probably getting old, but I just now got the comic up because Geocities was refusing to work. Like, at all. Wouldn't even let me click on the 'Geocities' link on the main yahoo site :P

Anyway, about the comic - It's ugly. Ugly, ugly, ugly, ugly, ugly. And I should shoot myself the next time I try to draw anything that require crazy perspective. This one's supposed to follow right after the previous one, which is why everyone's basically in the same positions and clothes and such...except that Nahni somehow grew long sleeves out of nowhere and Jaqq chopped hers off when I wasn't looking. This is what I get for not checking the previous comic for continuity :P And Jaqq's skin is a really funky color, since I accidentally used the wrong marker the first time around and then tried to make it better by going over it with other colors. Now it's all blotchy >_<;;

I like Nahni's hair. It came out rather pretty, I think =) A nice crystaly blue ^_^
11th-Apr-2007 11:23 am - Pigmefah! Update
satchel lazy
This was originally over on randomink, but I went ahead and moved it here to save time and continuity for anyone checking for Pigmefah! news...

So I've updated the site, making such amazing additions as:
-An actual archive page so you don't have to scroll through all the comics to find the one you want.
-The most recent non-comic (the holiday pic for St. Patty's Day 2007). Yes, my heritage really does have quite a bit of Scottish, but somehow no Irish. This was of course in response to all the 'Kiss Me, I'm Irish!' and 'Irish For A Day' type things you see every year in March ;P
-Several new pictures in the Art section. Mostly these were things that were already on the site, but that hadn't been opened up for viewing yet because of the stupidity that is Geocities.

Next comic is coming soon...hopefully. It's in the coloring stage, which means it's almost done, but for some reason I just haven't been motivated with this one. Maybe because I don't think it's very funny. Oh well, it's all I got right now :P

In other news, I have a job interview tomorrow at a kennel/training school that I really, really want to work at. Wish me luck!! XD

...And since I don't want to lose this stuff, and this seems like as good a place to put it as any, here are all the old Pigemfah! updates for your viewing pleasure...

satchel lazy
I'm consolidating and re-organizing my stuff here on lj, since I did a very stupid thing that was about to make things rather inconvenient... Basically, I'm moving all the fanfiction review stuff to a new home and making this account into an actual blog with news about Pigmefah!, my fics and art, and my life in general. Whoo~

randomink - This is where all things Pigmefah! were previously. I'll be closing this account once all the moving is done with. :P

jezunya - This will be my actual ljblog from now on, since using my name just for a fanfiction review list just seemed silly :P

intheroughfics - This is the new home for my fic reviews & recommendations, since I'm too much of a nerd to just scrap this project. Or maybe I'm too philanthropic. I feel the need to find the good fics among all the garbage out there and make a list of them so other people can find them too. Yeah, that's definitely it - I just can't help myself when it comes to doing good deeds! /sarcasm :B
